Acts 12:21-23 "... When the day arrived, Herod put on his royal robes, sat on his throne, and made a speech to them. The people gave him a great ovation, shouting, "It's the voice of a god, not a man!" Instantly, an angel of the Lord struck Herod with a sickness, because he accepted the people's worship instead of giving the glory to God. So he was consumed with worms and died."
Herod took the glory instead of honoring God... it cost him his life. Granted, Herod was not the nicest of men - he had James beheaded and Peter arrested, but the Bible says he was struck with sickness for taking the glory instead of giving it to God.
Human pride is behind many of our sins; it keeps us from admitting our faults, confessing our transgressions, seeking forgiveness, and causes us to isolate ourselves from others out of fear they might know who we really are. Herod's pride lead to his death.
Take time to reflect on instanceswhen you have taken the credit for God's work, when you think you did something on your own, or believe something happened by purely your own efforts... be thankful God is merciful and spend sometime acknowledging all the ways He has blessed your life and is at work in it.
