James 2:19 "You believe that there is one God. Good! Even the demons believe that - and shudder."
As I stood in the lines to get into church this weekend, I was conflicted. A part of me was happy that there were so many people coming in to hear the message. Though at a deeper level I was saddened - in America so many people acknowledge God twice a year, almost as if attending church is part of a holiday ritual and they are going out of obligation.
Their relationship with God is their own business, the Bible gives clear examples to follow and shows us the type of relationship God wants with each of us. Why do we allow ourselves to believe that God wants the type of relationship we have with distant cousins that we see maybe once a year? My family does not really have family reunions, unfortunately the only time we seem to see each other is at a funeral (various reasons, locations, drama, etc) - but I would not say that I have a relationship with most of them either.
Three maybe four hours a year, the time so many invest in the most important relationship they would ever have. Less time than it takes to watch a football game on Sunday, the average American spends almost three hours a day watching television. Our priorities are shown by the amount of time and ourselves we invest in them, where do you spend your time?
Revelation 3:16 "So because you are lukewarm - neither hot nor cold - I am about to spit you out of my mouth."
