John 15:7 "If you abide in Me, and My words abide in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you."
1 John 3:21-22 "We have confidence before God, and can receive whatever we ask from Him because we keep His commands and do what is pleasing in His sight."
Often times we hear Christians quote these verses, or ones similar, in an attempt to justify their selfish prayers. They pray for a better job, more money, new house, new cars, etc..The critical flaw with this type of prayer is that their heart is not aligned with God. Even in the Garden when Jesus asked God if there was another way, He left it up to God's will and not his own.
If you are asking God for anything, make sure your heart is right and your motives are aligned with God. If you are praying for things or are in need of things to do something that God has called you to do, then rest assured that He will provide a way. However, if you are simply treating God as a "genie" to fulfill your selfish desires, He may require a change of heart before He answers your prayers... By the way "no" is an answer too.
