John 12:23-25 " Unless a kernel of wheat falls to the ground and dies, it remains only a single seed. But if it dies, it produces many seeds. The man who loves his life will lose it, while the man who hates his life in this world will keep it for eternal life."
Romans 3:10-11 "There is no one righteous, not even one; there is no one who understands, no one who seeks God."
What? The first verse is explaining the contrast between a worldly perspective and a life that Christ calls us to. We are to die to self so that we may be used. The second verse explains why we struggle daily - it is against our nature to submit to God's will. We are selfish and until God calls us and we surrender to His will, we are content to attempt to "self sooth".
It is against out nature to seek God, but ironically we all seek something. Stop and think about how most people spend their free time; Most people try to find fulfillment in various vices or distractions... it is scary to submit to God. "What if He wants me to do something scaryor embarrassing?" - He will give you the strength and humility to overcome those challenges. The scary part is not what He might call you to do, you will typically find that you will get fulfillment and joy when you are doing His work - the truly scary part is if you don't answer! "The man who loves life will lose it, while the man who hates his life in this world will keep it for eternal life."
