I understand people's desire for religious freedom and freedom of expression, though I do not understand ignoring our history. This group is moving to block the the phrase "In God We Trust" and the Pledge from being displayed at the Capitol Visitor Center. They claim that using tax payer's money would be the same as the government endorsing a religion.
What about when the government uses tax payer money to pay for educational programs a special interest group does not endorse? What about funding for a program that a different group does not approve of? How about paying for our military - some people are totally against our military.
Like it or not our country was founded based on religious views - should we censor the Pilgrims? The Pilgrims were a group of people that had very strong beliefs in God, if we use tax dollars to purchase books with Pilgrims in them, that talk about their beliefs - is that a government endorsement?
I think President Reagan said it best... "If we ever forget that we are one nation under God, then we will be a nation gone under."
