Proverbs 6:16-19 "There are six things the Lord hates, seven that are detestable to him; haughty eyes, a lying tongue, hands that shed innocent blood, a heart that devises wicked schemes, feet that are quick to rush into evil, a false witness who pours out lies and a man who stirs up dissension among brothers."
As we pray and ask God to forgive us of our sins, think about how many times we do these seven things. How many of our sins begin with a lie, haughty eyes, etc? The Bible tells us that our heart is deceitfully wicked, yet how many times do we choose to indulge in pleasures of the flesh instead of being obedient to God?
Our struggles with sin are continuous but all sin can be broken down to simple beginnings. It is only through prayer and daring to be totally honest with God, not justifying but daring to be real, can we truly be free.
