Psalm 127:1-2 “Unless the Lord builds the house, those who build it labor in vain. Unless the Lord guards the city, the guard keeps watch in vain. It is in vain that you rise up early and go late to rest, eating the bread of anxious toil; for he gives sleep to his beloved.”
Matthew 11: 28-31 “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”
Luke 12:25-26 “Can any of you by worrying add a single hour to your span of life? If then you are not able to do so small a thing as that, why do you worry about the rest.”
We all have periods in our life when we are anxious about the future or afraid of the unknown. These are the times when we must put our faith in God and allow Him to calm and sooth our spirit. We can not control our world, no matter how hard we try, but through God and our relationship with him we can find peace.
Anxiety and fear can have devastating effects on our body - lack of sleep, loss of appetite, panic attacks, chest pains, etc. For all the time we spend worrying about things we can not control what do we get? What is the return on our time? Nothing! We lose those hours and all that energy for nothing It is "easier said than done," but we must teach ourselves to turn those fears over to God, hand him our worries - he already knows them. Allow him to carry our burdens and lighten our load. Once we are able to accept that God is God and limitless while acknowledging that we are limited and finite, only then can we experience the freedom, joy, and peace God has intended for us.
