Jeremiah 17:9 "The heart is deceitful above all things and beyond cure. Who can understand it?"
Our heart is naturally evil and wicked. There is no cure - God replaces our hearts when we accept Him and submit to His will.
Throughout our lives we continually struggle to do what we know is right and in accordance with God's way. Even though our minds know what to do, our hearts are of this world - they naturally are drawn back to it. This internal battle is the root of most of the conflicts in our lives. The Bible tells us that our fight is not with enemies of flesh and bone, everything stems from this internal struggle in our heart.
We must remember our own hearts will deceive us, we can not trust it and we must continually turn to God. Through constant prayer and as we gain a more intimate relationship with God our heart will change - it will become aligned with His own heart. The closer we come to Him we will experience greater peace and joy in our lives.
In the end we must realize once we accept God into our lives, we are no longer of this world and the ways of the world are not the ways of our God.
