Luke 10:13 "Whoever can be trusted with very little can also be trusted with much, and whoever is dishonest with very little will also be dishonest with much. So if you have not been trustworthy in handling worldly wealth, who will trust you with true riches? Either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and ."
These verses are taken from Jesus' parable of the Shrewd Manager and was in front of the Pharisees, who happened to love money. The essence of the message is to do what is right with whatever you are entrusted with, that your actions will be a reflection of your heart.
When I began thinking about this parable the song from Pete's Dragon, "Money, Money, Money by the Pound," came to mind. It is so true of today's society, money above all else. We sacrifice family, integrity, honor, morals, and even love for money. Unfortunately the love, or lust, of money is a never ending quest, there is never enough. One of my friends asked me if I knew how long a raise lasted. His answer, until the next paycheck!Once we have more money our lifestyle increase to accommodate our new fortune. Often times we overlook God in this equation.
Do you thank Him for blessing you? Give the credit to God or take it for yourself? - after all you earned it, right? I am not going to lecture or debate if you should tithe and how much, but we are told to help those in need. That assistance is not limited to money, it is your time and your talents as well. God calls us to work and to give of ourselves. You cannot love God and love Money because eventually one will win out. The manner in which we use the talents and gifts God blesses us with directly effects the blessing and gifts we receive in the future. So are you choosing to listen to God or E.F. Hutton?
