Psalm 103:11-12 "For as high as the heavens are above the earth, so great is his love for those who fear him: as far as the east is from the west, so far has he removed our transgressions from us."
Am I meant to carry guilt? In a word - NO! We are to ask for God's forgiveness through our confessions. Satan loves to remind us of our failures, use them to make us feel unworthy and distance us from God. So why do we feel trapped by guilt? Besides Satan using guilt as a weapon against us, there may be more involved.
Think of the last time you prayed and confessed something to God. Did you truly confess out of repentance or just to cover your six? How detailed was your confession? Do you ever go into why you did something, do you know? The more detailed our confession, the deeper we delve into the root of the issue, the more God can heal us and change us. When we give God the typical, "Sorry I said those things to ...", we limit the amount of change God can do in our lives. We must dig deeper, offer true repentance and try to understand why we did what we did and give that to God too - then he can radically change our lives.
Guilt can also be an indication that we have not truly repented. We all have struggles but when we are saying sorry for the seventh time for the exact same thing, maybe we need to dig a little deeper. You would not be satisfied with someone apologizing that way to you - you would question their sincerity, so why do we expect God to accept it from us?
