This weekend I heard my youngest daughter crying and thrashing around her room. Each time I called her name her cries seemed to be more filled with desperation and frustration. Finally she came out of her room and met me in the hallway. Her problem... her shirt was stuck on her head. She could not get it off. I quickly freed her from her mini prison and soon the tears went away. I gave her a hug and told her that all she needed to do was ask for help and I would be there for her.
Anyone who has been around children can relate to this story, they are struggling to be independent but sometimes they just need a little help. In order for anyone to help them they have to ask or make the problem known. Then comes the hard part, they have to be still and allow someone to help them. Luckily my daughter has learned that daddy is pretty good at freeing her from those pesky shirts. Though there have been times when she would stamp her feet, cry more, fight me, and even sometimes try to help. She has learned that it works out best if she is calm and lets daddy help her.
Think of our lives and our daily struggles, take a moment to reflect on the stresses in your life. God tells us not to worry, He is the creator of the universe. If we just take time to be still and turn our problems over to Him, He will get us through them. He does not need our help but He does need us to trust and surrender to His will. If you have been thrashing around your room with your seemingly inescapable prison, maybe it is time to as for help and be still.
