This past weekend my father was in town and we took my children to Legoland. They had a blast. He experienced our "beauty shop" and our normal routine. Of course he spent the weekend spoiling them, but he does not get to see them very often (he lives on the other side of the country). It felt really good that he complimented me on how I take care of my kids etc. Though my heart was broken about 30 minutes before I took them to their mother.
My youngest came to me and just looked at me and smiled. She had been collecting her things that she wanted to take to her mother's and told me she had her things. I opened her back pack and she placed them inside. She then kept staring at me - I asked her what was wrong and she smiled. In her sweet little voice she said, "I'll miss you daddy!" as she gave me a hug. I felt my eyes tear up as she hugged me. It was so sweet and sincere - no prompting just a heartfelt statement.
It kills me every time they have to leave me, I want nothing more than to have them with me all the time. They are so precious and amazing to me. I can not fathom how a parent can walk away from a child - they are so incredible, a true blessing. I guess it was her way of telling me she would be OK.
