Proverbs 25:21 "If your enemy is hungry, give him food to eat; if he is thirsty, give him water to drink. In doing this, you will heap burning coals on his head, and the Lord will reward you."
I have read these verses many times, but have not really been successful in applying them. Too often I focus on revenge or "justice" and lose sight of what I should do. We must remember we are of the world and that often times puts our desires in direct conflict with God's direction. Next time someone "wrongs" you, repay it with kindness. I do not mean to help them twist the knife, but do not lower yourself and compromise who you are called to be. For example, someone calls you a name - what do you do? It is easy to lash out and call them the same name or worse, but what does that solve? It continues the exchange, raises your blood pressure, tempers flair, and most often you only help confirm their opinion of you! Next time why not try to simply nod your head and walk away? You will keep your dignity and be an example for your children or others to emulate.... a lot better than having your children and friends scatter and apologize to strangers on your behalf. Just something to think about.
