Proverbs 12:16 "A fool shows his annoyance at once, But a prudent man overlooks an insult."
Proverbs 29:11 "A fool gives full vent to his anger, but a wise man keeps himself under control."
Makes sense and seems easy... however in application we often fail. I sometimes take verses like this and write them on an index card and stick them to my mirror. Hey it helped me learn Russian, it can't hurt to keep these verses fresh in my mind. Stop and think about the last argument you had with someone, or the last time you were angry. Did you say something you regretted? At the time I am sure you felt justified and still may, to a point. Once you start having to justify yourself - 99% of the time, you are wrong. I am as guilty as the next, but I am trying to get better.
Next time you catch yourself getting upset and wanting to "give them a piece of your mind", take a second and compose yourself. Better to let them "win" than be a fool and have regrets - besides you will just end up apologizing anyway...
