Job 42:2-6 " I know that you can do all things; no plan of yours can be thwarted. You asked, 'Who is this that obscures my counsel without knowledge?' Surely I spoke of things I did not understand, things too wonderful for me to know. You said, 'Listen now, and I will speak; I will question you, and you shall answer me.' My ears have heard of you but now my eyes have seen you. Therefore I despise myself and repent in dust and ashes."
This dialog with God happens after Job complains for several chapters, he never stops to listen. In Chapter 38, God answers Job and asks him some questions. In the second verse of Job 38, God says "Who is this that darkens my counsel with words without knowledge?" He basically tells Job, OK Job, you are so smart and have it all figured out, explain to me how I did this...." It had to be a humbling but very enlightening and powerful experience.
The end result of this exchange was simple, Job was silent. When he finally stopped talking he could hear God. If you are having trouble hearing God, check your heart and make sure you are right with God, that there is nothing keeping you from Him. Most importantly, take the time to wait and be silent.
I highly encourage reading God's answer to Job and see what he says. It is truly humbling but comforting at the same time. God did all the things He says He did and has the power He says He has, our "problems" are nothing he can not handle - just have to let Him.
